Low-relief Rhythmic Sculptures: Art II

A few months back I ran across a lesson plan that I had been wanting to try so I decided that it might be a good way to start off the new semester. After showing some examples from the lesson plan, the Art II students were eager to take on the challenge. To create a rhythmic feeling in art the artist must repeat certain lines, shapes, colors, patterns, etc. These examples of the final projects show that they really grasped the concept of rhythm in art.

    1. @nicolesikes - I got the idea and example images from a lesson plan on Dick Blick's website. I believe the title of the plan was something about "rhythm in layers".

Thanks for your interest in the project

  4. These are great! Did your students have to include a certain number of media? Are they p rely abstract or do they have meaning? I would love to do this with students and just wanted to know a little more about the lesson plan? Thanks.

    1. @Melissa - I did not require any certain number of media, but most used the variety provided. Most had no real meaning or overall them. The bigger two, and the ones I feel were the most successful, were going for a "nature" theme. I got the original idea from the Dick Blick web site.
